There is nothing romantic about a long-term disability. This store owner knows firsthand.
As an old RN, I spent many years giving tired moms a break from their children's complex nursing care. I even cared for a college freshman in a dorm room who used a motorized wheelchair operated with a straw.
All this was before several immediate family members' lives turned on a dime. Their bodies or memories may not work like those of everyday people rushing around on the street or working in a gigantic building.
But we remember love... we want to be seen and accepted for who we are inside. We all deserve love. It
'Love' can be as simple as a smile or opening a door that is not accessible—even a novelty t-shirt featuring a cartoon critter using a mobility device or a hearing aid can mean, "I matter."
I once used a glue gun to attach toy motorcycle wheels to a plastic dollhouse chair to make a wheelchair that a doll with a wedding veil could sit in on the top of her wedding cake. The bride was radiant when the couple cut their wedding cake... until a guy in a gorilla suit carried her away.
