Gumdrop Land T-shirt Designs: A Parent Friendly Explanation
Gumdrop Land was born from the character little Anna Banana Baker’s imagination — a pastel world where sweetness is a feeling, not a food group.
I don't know about you, but I grew up in a home where sugar was almost mythical. We had birthday cake once a year and a Sunday night A&W root beer. My parents were early “natural food” pioneers in the 50s and 60s, long before it was trendy. Fresh, from‑scratch, simple food was our normal...and I can live with that.
So why all the candy‑colored designs in Malika Bourne Legacy?
What IF we could eat all the fun stuff we ever wanted?
Because Gumdrop Land isn’t about eating sugar. It’s about the sweetness children naturally carry inside them. The gumdrops, cherries, sprinkles, and swirls are visual metaphors — the way a child might imagine joy, wonder, or a really good day. They’re symbols of childhood magic, not a menu.
Why can't I have cake for breakfast?
And honestly? Kids don’t need more rules. Parents don’t need more guilt. We all need more balance. Prompts can give parents fun ways to have open, honest conversations with their kids... By the way, author Malika Bourne writes about that kind of conversation with kids in fun ways in another soon-to-be-published book.
[The Edge of Eternity Press has taken over publishing the stacks of unpublished literary works of author Malika Bourne. Yes, we are finally gonna-to-get-her done! Yes, we created an e-commerce boutique to showcase her decades of creative expertise. Of course, there is a story behind the adventures of seeing Malika's children's books published.
All the T-shirts and accessories in Malika Bourne Legacy were created as support merch for the dozens of children's stories that needed two things: 1) graphic illustrations instead of colored pencil drawings. 2) formatting.]
Gumdrop Land lets children enjoy fantasy/pretend play without pressure to consume anything. It’s the same way dinosaurs in my world love broccoli because it looks like tiny trees — playful, imaginative, and gently encouraging without lecturing.
My designs celebrate both sides of the plate:
- The pastel candy dreams
- The broccoli forests
- The fresh, from‑scratch values
- The real‑life picky‑eater moments
Because childhood isn’t about avoiding all sugar or consuming all vegetables. It’s a mix — a balance — a place where imagination can live without judgment.
Gumdrop Land is a reminder that sweetness can come from creativity, connection, and play… not just what’s on the table.
PS: Gumdrop Land and Dinosaurs Love Broccoli character graphics stepped aside temporarily to focus on Back-to-School, Fall, and classroom-safe, not spooky Halloween (Falloween). The characters from this sweet world will return when kids need them most in upcoming children's books and coloring books.
